Pool Maintenance Closure Update
December 21, 2022

Wrangell Parks and Recreation Swimming Pool has been closed for maintenance with a projected re-opening date of January 9th. We have made much progress towards the priorities identified in our plans, including extensive grout work, valve replacements, chlorine cell and heat exchanger maintenance. We are still addressing the full scope of work in the pool basin to include a concrete repair.

To accommodate contractor availability and the expanded scope of work to include the necessary repairs to the concrete foundation, we are extending the closure by at least six additional weeks. We will update the time frame for re-opening once a contractor is secured with a confirmed completion date. We apologize for the inconvenience as we know this is an asset to the community, especially during the winter months.

Thank you to our maintenance staff, Lane Fitzjarrald and Duke Mitchell for their dedication and hard work. To the Capital Facilities Director, Amber Al-Haddad for working with contractors to tackle the expanded scope of work. And to the Public Works Department staff, Jef Rooney, Lorne Cook, Jeffry Davidson, Tom Gillen, Brian Christian, and Andrew Scambler for assisting with valve replacements, pump maintenance and more. It takes a team to accomplish projects of this nature and we are grateful to have positive working relationships that help expedite our priorities.

A special thanks to the community for your support and patience. We look forward to welcoming you back when we return operations. Please note we will extend active memberships for the time equal to the duration of the closure at the member’s request.
