Deep Water Swim Test Policy - Wrangell Parks & Recreation is committed to implementing prevention efforts to ensure that all patrons who swim in our pool are safe. To that end, according to industry standards, all patrons will be tested to evaluate minimum swimming abilities, endurance and breath control. A patron that does not take or does not pass the swim test will be restricted from deep water but may still gain access to the shallow end of the pool. When the swim test is conducted for a child age 13 and under, a parent's presence is required. For more policy details, see policy attachment below.
Two lap lanes are offered in the pool during the 10:00 am - 11:00 am hour, Mondays, Wednesday and Friday, on a trial basis. This is the hour when the Water Aerobics sessions are scheduled. Lap swimmers may be asked to swim with lane lines in the pool during these lap swim sessions in order to delineate lap lanes from the other activities taking place in the pool.
There are several Aquatic Programs offered at the indoor swimming pool. Scheduled activities include lap swims, family swims, general public swims, arthritis aquatic classes, water aerobic classes, and swimming lessons. The pool facility is shared with the Wrangell Public Schools and is an integral part of the physical education program for students in the elementary, middle and high schools. Special classes such as kayak skills, scuba diving, cold water survival, Lifeguard training and Water Safety Instructor training are also offered from time to time.
The Wrangell Swim Club uses the pool for their practices and meets.
The pool is available for party rentals outside of the regular schedule for swimming sessions and classes.
The pool has six lap lanes and is twenty-five yards in length and ranges from 3'-6" to 12'-6" in depth. The tot pool is 2'-6" deep.
