Utility Application
Wrangell purchases the majority of its power from Tyee Hydro Electric facility. Hydro provides a more cost efficient and environmentally friendly source of power. WMLP also maintains and operates a 5 meg diesel power generation facility. Wrangell's distribution area consists of 26.8 miles of overhead and 2.4 mile of underground line energized at 7200 volts.

744 Small commercial (including harbor stalls)
13 Large Commercial
175 Heat Rate (residential and commercial)
The department consists of 5 full time employees:
Electrical Superintendent - Rod Rhoades
Electrical Foreman - Dwight Yancey
Lineman - Chris Stewart
Apprentice Lineman - Jacob Hammer
Power Generation Mechanic – David McHolland
Wrangell Municipal Light and power has updated the Electrical fees and rates effective July 2023.
Electrical permits are required for all new construction and most remodels. Permits are issued at the WMLP Office. A copy of the permit is provided below.
Service installation handbooks, Wrangell Municipal Codes and the current NEC Code books are available at the WMLP Office for public use.
