The collection includes the historical newspapers The Fort Wrangell News (1898), The Stikeen River Journal (1898-1899), The Alaska Sentinel (1902-1909), and the Wrangell Sentinel (1909-present). The Sentinel is the oldest continuously published newspaper in Alaska. The collection is updated annually to ensure continued access to Wrangell's ongoing story.
This project was made possible through funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services via the Wrangell Cooperative Association, the Rasmuson Foundation, the Friends of the Irene Ingle Public Library, the Juneau Community Foundation, donations from the community of Wrangell, and the generosity of Larry Persily, current publisher of the Wrangell Sentinel.
The database was built and is maintained by Andornot and is owned and managed by the Irene Ingle Public Library.
