Water Treatment Plant Update
As of the end of March 2025, Wrangell’s drinking water supply has transitioned from the former ozonation and slow sand filtration system to the newly constructed Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) Water Treatment Plant.
Early performance from the new facility shows significant improvements in overall water quality. Regulatory water samples are scheduled for collection in May, and once laboratory analysis is complete, results will be shared with the public.
While the new system is now operational, work continues toward full project completion. Phase 2 is currently underway and involves repurposing parts of the old treatment plant to support the new facility’s long-term operations. Our contractor, engineering team, and Public Works staff are working hard to address the remaining tasks and ensure the system operates efficiently and reliably.
We appreciate the community’s patience and support during this transition. For questions or concerns, please contact the Public Works Department at (907) 874-3904.
